How To Create Content That Your Audience Actually Wants

Do you feel like you're marketing to crickets? You're putting out content consistently but it just doesn't seem like it's resonating with your audience? I know how discouraging it is. Try my simple approach that will prevent this from ever happening again. 

First, you'll need to decide which search engine will better serve you in this exercise. The options are Pinterest or Google. The way you'll choose which search engine to use is by identifying where your ICA (ideal customer avatar) is hanging out. Are they present on Pinterest or would they visit Google to answer their questions? Whatever your answer is, use that.

Second, type in key words related to your industry/business. These search engines will auto-populate what people are searching for most in relation to those key words. For instance, when I type in marketing, the results I get are: 

1. marketing ideas

2. marketing strategy

3. marketing strategy social media

4. marketing quotes

5. marketing plan 

6. marketing tips

So I'm going to create content around these results because this is what is most searched for when it comes to marketing. By developing blogs, podcasts, videos, etc. that have to do with these things, you can be sure it will resonate with your audience because that's literally what they're searching for. Make sense?

In addition to "marketing," keywords or phrases I most frequently search to get content ideas are "business owner," "how to," "entrepreneur," "email," "brand," "online" and "social media." Cumulatively, these key words give me a very accurate idea of what my ICA has been searching for.

Create a list using this approach and write down the top results from keywords you search. Keep this list close and refer back to it when you're creating content. You'll find it much easier from here on out to not only come up with content ideas, but more importantly, to come up with relevant content ideas that your audience will connect to.
